On the one hand, I'm sorry to see you go because... selfishly I suppose... I saw you as potentially a hugely positive influence on the site. On the other hand, you clearly haven't been happy here in a while, and that tends to thwart even the best of intentions. So thanks for sticking it out this long, and thanks for not pushing yourself to stick it out ...

Alright, this is kinda a two pronged answer. One - How do you deal with an (allegedy) abusive mod team? Easy. Follow the instructions in this Meta Stack Exchange post. (Basically, use the contact us link to reach out to the SE Community Managers. They're employees of SE. They'll look into things and take whatever action is merited, if any.) Two - Dealing ...

From one retired line cook to another, I'm pretty damn sorry to see you go. I saw you shooting flares up, I saw you doing what you thought was right, and at the same time I knew that trying to fight that sort of thing in the trenches, battle by battle, was only going to tire us out and drag it into a war. I guess the TL;DR is that Stack Exchange has a ...

I'm sorry this wasn't the right community for you - or, at least, that it currently isn't. I've been quieter the last few weeks because this site has been a huge struggle for me for various reasons and I don't want you to leave thinking that I don't hear you. I do. I hear you so loudly it hurts because I don't know what to do to fix it. I've spent the last ...

Notes: HDE 226868 would make a good moderator on Interpersonal Skills. HDE has shown an early interest in the site and has (real and pro-tem) moderator experience elsewhere, which as far as I'm aware, people are quite satisfied with. HDE has been active on meta and has a broad experience on the SE network. A downside may be that HDE may be too busy to ...

Let's get a couple of things straight about what happened. As of Revision 3 of your answer, you had called the OP's girlfriend "sadistic, narcissistic and emotionally unstable", and called her behavior "shitty and manipulative". You also referred to her as "abusive", and stated that she "sucks". These are all blatant violations of the Be Nice policy, which ...

I rolled back the edit and locked the answer to give us a chance to talk about it here. To be clear, the bit in contention is not an apology despite the words "I'd like to apologise". Instead, that's meta commentary on the other answers and answerers. So I kinda have a hard time with the premise of this meta question. If you have a problem with other ...

This site is now public. Enjoy! Original answer: Barring any technical delays, the site should go public tomorrow afternoon (Tue, 18-Jul). The nomination thread was posted last week, so the selection process typically begins about a week after the site launches; however, I will be out of town next week and I am slated to make the initial contacts, so we ...

Em C Meta Profile Em C has been very active over the last 11 months in pretty much all areas of the site -- asking, answering, editing, flagging, commenting, reviewing, voting, meta, and judging from badges, chat. (I'm not in this site's chat often, so I can't say more about that part.) Em C looks like somebody who cares about helping this site flourish ...

I disagree with the idea that comments are for improving posts; that's what edits are for. To quote the help that can be accessed when adding a comment: Comments are used to ask for clarification or to point out problems in the post. Or, to crib from the help center, comments are like Post-it Notes. Unfortunately, comments use some sort of industrial-...

I don't particularly like answers that say "There's no interpersonal solution here." Two points spring to mind: It's very, very hard to show that there's no interpersonal solution to an interpersonal problem. It's very, very easy to claim that there isn't and then write a non-IPS answer. Problems arise when people think "Hm, I can't come up with a good ...

We (the moderators) haven't really discussed requesting a new moderator from the Community Managers. We know that it's an option... and if the users feel like the moderation of the site is somewhat lacking, we're happy to consider your point of view on the subject but, as of right now, we don't think that there's a need. Even if that's the case, there's no &...

As the mod who declined your flag, and as something of a third party, I might as well give my two cents. You detailed your objections to the passage; that's good, and I'll try to reply to them all. This kind of thing is a big part of the reason that women have largely dropped out of game culture... Blames men without any reason for ...

Let's have conflicting answers for extra fun, shall we? I'm going to say yes, with caveats. Take my answer to How to talk to a girl who's sitting next to me but wearing headphones? as an example. It contains no personal experience (note: "if" is not experience, it's theoretical) It lists no sources It's the second-highest-upvoted answer on the site. ...

You've been a amazing mod. I'm certain you'll be an amazing "regular" user as well. Best of luck for your studies and hope we'll see you around!

The apology isn't the problem it's the remarks about other reactions to the question that lead to it getting removed. On it's own an apology in an answer is rather innocuous. It's just extra noise in the post that can easily be ignored, but expresses sympathy for the OP. Your apology was more than just apology though it was a jab at other people's ...

Notes: Catija has had a lot of participation here; she's currently the #7 user by reputation and also one of the most active meta users. She has a very good knowledge of the Stack Exchange system as a whole, with active participation on several larger and older sites and over 10k reputation on main meta. She's also already a moderator on Arts & Crafts ...

The first comment... Just chiming in to say not being able to say 'Sorry' after a car accident is a very American thing. 'Sorry' means different things in different countries. I don't see anything wrong with it. It's adding a bit of information that is relevant, by mentioning that saying 'Sorry' means different things in different cultures, which is ...

First off, I'd like to apologise for the onslaught of crap responses you've already received and those that'll likely be rolling in over the next few days. It's an unfortunate reality of talking about these things online and unfortunately IPS is no exception. That right here is incredibly patronizing and unnecessary. An apology itself isn't ...

Conveniently, it looks like your comment was captured in chat. It was posted on this question, and read: Not an answer, but you should not do it not just because it is a fraud, but also because marrying implies a series of consequences that may force you to have to support her financially for the rest of your life. This is not asking for clarification or ...

Downvote if you don't like the post, but we shouldn't police this. Legal issues are out of scope here; it's up to individuals to know whether or not particular substances are legal in their jurisdiction. The most we should do here is edit in a disclaimer. Same for medical. I don't know what specific types of drugs are considered highly dangerous and which ...

14

As there's no real question here, but only some POV, pros and cons points, I'll just address some of these points, hopefully to challenge your claims. But I also had lots of comments and answers deleted. Mostly not because they were rude but because it seems I did not follow this rule or that rule or this and that guideline... Yes. This stack has ...

Magisch Meta Profile I'm nominating myself as a candidate for the position of moderator pro tempore. This community has proven a unique challenge in the context of Stack Exchange. I really like the progress we've made so far and would like to help out more. Even though I actively answer less these days, I'm still very invested in the community's success ...

14

Ah, bad timing. We're sorry! You can't see it, but that question already has three other low-quality, deleted answers as well. And a fourth (the one you mentioned, the downvoted one) that's about to be if it isn't edited, as it doesn't meet our citation guidelines. The moderator team chose to protect the question after a flag was raised asking for that. ...

13

Best of luck, and I know that all three of you will do very well at your job. Congratulations, and I hope to spend many an interesting meta/chat discussion with you three! =)

When users cast close votes they think the current version of the question is close worthy and intend to close the question. If the question is later fixed while the question is "on hold" that's great and obviously a preferred outcome. Effectively "closed" and "on hold" are the same thing, for a long time we didn't even have the "on hold" step, questions ...

Notes: This nominee would be a good choice because he is not only the top reputation earner as of this moment, but Crafter0800 has also been extremely active as an editor on the main site and on meta. As of this writing, Crafter0800 has made 444 actions on the main site, and 84 on meta. Both of these numbers are more than all of the other users nominated ...

TL:DR All the categories of comments you mentioned aren't asking for clarification or suggesting improvements, and since that's what's comments on SE are for, they are removed. Ideally, these are removed as soon as possible to avoid setting a precedent for others or to prevent arguments that can turn quite nasty. Ideally, these comments are removed by ...

I was the moderator who deleted your comment. In full, it read I think the use of IM is not a very good suggestion. People get much more embarrassed having to reply in writing (or even to be told something in writing). I also think the "not face-to-face is not good", it really implies there is something wrong. The reasons for deletion are basically the ...

I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm not confident that IPS has much of an active role to play here. There's plenty of discussion around these events already, so I'll try not to spend extra lines re-hashing them. The bottom line of the current situation seems to me to be: Inadequate Information We don't really have a good grasp of what happened, and how. This ...
